Job Description:
Plans, integrates, controls and evaluates human, material and
fiscal resources required to provide patient care in specific
departments. Provides leadership in establishing standards, goals,
and direction. Facilitates, coordinates, and manages staff,
material, and financial resources to achieve patient outcomes/care
and to promote professional development/practice of staff.
Incorporates the Nursing Department philosophy into leadership and
clinical practice. Ensures implementation of departmental and
department specific patient care standards and nurse competencies.
This position serves the following patient age categories:
neonatal, pediatrics, adolescent, adult and geriatric.This
leadership role supports the 18-bed labor and delivery unit and OB
ORs, with approximately 5k deliveries per year. Assures an
effective system for management of human resources.Evaluates and
determines human resource needs for program development,
maintenance or revision. Assures the following human resource
functions meet organizational guidelines. Position control,
Interviewing, Hiring, Scheduling, Disciplinary process/termination,
Promotion, Maintains system for evaluating staff performance in
accordance with organizational guidelines. Develops/maintains
criteria for staff performance in accordance with professional,
regulatory agencies and departmental standards. Assures performance
appraisal completion. Facilitates and develops effective work
groups/team/staff members. Manages retention/turnover rate to meet
organizational objectives. Develops/maintains an environment that
supports learning and professional
development.--------------------------------------------------Assures
departmental patient care services meets organizational goals and
objectives. Develops and promotes departmental
philosophy.Identifies and develops departmental goals and
objectives utilizing trend data and customer and staff input.
Develops/maintains an ongoing department organizational structure
to meet program goals. Assures patient care outcomes are achieved,
Leadership rounds, Case conferences, Data evaluation. Assures
program meets professional, regulatory and department standards.
Develops/evaluates staffing and educational strategies to meet
program/institutional goals and outcomes, Orientation, Continuing
Education, Clinical skills development. Markets program to
hospital, community and other agencies, as needed. Assures
maintenance of departmental policies and
procedures.--------------------------------------------------Assures
effective financial management. Conducts annual department capital,
staffing, materials and program needs analysis. Develops budget in
accordance with organizational priorities and constraints. Performs
variance analysis and develops action plan to ensure targets are
met. Facilitates, maintains and evaluates departmental
cost-containment activities in accordance with system
initiatives.--------------------------------------------------Demonstrates
personal accountability and effective conflict
resolution/negotiation skills. Demonstrates appropriate use of
universal precautions and use of personal protective equipment.
Maintains safe environment and responds appropriately to
emergencies and safety hazards. Promotes a positive, supportive,
and professional work environment free of disruptive behavior.
Practices, in all professional relationships, with compassion and
respect for the inherent dignity, worth and uniqueness of every
individual. Follows Chain of Command for assistance with issues
related to unresolved/problem-solving and/or conflict resolution.

to peer feedback and seeks mediation as necessary. Facilitates
building and preserving collaborative and respectful relationships.
Demonstrates expertise in collaboration, negotiation, and conflict

EDUCATION:Bachelors, Nursing, RequiredMasters, Healthcare Related
Field, RequiredGraduate of RN educational program required.Master's
degree in progress may be considered.The following requirements are
valid in the long term care setting ONLY (Penn Nursing Center,
Alamance Extended Care/Village at Brookwood):Associate's degree in
Nursing requiredBachelor's degree in Nursing preferred (note:
experienced RNs with an Associate's Degree must commit to obtain
their BSN within four years from date of hire)Master's in
Healthcare Related field is preferredEXPERIENCE:Minimum of 3 years
progressive leadership experience required.Prior management
experience preferred. Labor and Delivery and OB OR expeience
strongly
preferred.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIREDRN -
Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.BLS
(CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Certified in
relative area of practice or Certification in Nursing
Administration (NE-BC) or other relevant management or applicable
specialty or must obtain within one year of hire.PREFERRED
