Field Maintenance Operations (FMO), Association of American
Railroads (AAR), and Other Maintenance
Job Summary
The Operational Finance Manager is responsible for a team of
Finance professionals, leading all activities related to FMO, AAR,
and Other Maintenance planning/forecasting, financial month-end
close activities, and reporting and analytics. Bring expertise in
financial and operational data analysis, develop and oversee
strategic field initiatives and lead the Finance partnership with
the Equipment team.
Manage all accounting functions, to include the financial month-end
close and reconciliation processes for maintenance activities at
FMO repair facilities, the AAR, and Other Maintenance cost centers
and general ledger accounting activity.
Function as a liaison and primary point of contact between
corporate and field operations teams, making sure communication is
clear and consistent, ensuring both sides stay aligned and
informed.
Own all aspects of financial reporting and analysis for the FMOs,
AAR, and Other Maintenance including analysis of general ledger
activities and operational data.
Provide leadership on the analysis of data provided to and received
by other departments with respect to operational data and P&L
activity.
Collaborate with FMO and Other Maintenance operation's management
to implement reporting and analytics that provide key production
and efficiency metrics and enable effective cost management.
Lead and organize the quarterly forecasting and annual planning
process with respect to FMO, AAR, and Other Maintenance
activities.
Lead, mentor, and provide strategic guidance to Operational Finance
team members, fostering growth in both technical expertise and soft
skills development to drive team performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or Data Management from a
four-year college or university; Master's and / or CMA or CPA
preferable but not required.
5-7 years of financial analysis, general accounting, and/or
FP&A experience, with preferred background in an Operational
Finance role.
Experience with Oracle is preferred.
Intermediate to advanced Excel, Power Bi, and SQL skills.
Working knowledge of AAR rules and procedures a plus but not
required.
Ability to apply basic statistical analysis to identify trends and
relationships in data, to better understand cost drivers and to
improve forecasting, analysis, and reporting.
Ability to solve problems with a strong aptitude to think
creatively and find innovative solutions for process improvement
and planning/forecasting, reporting initiatives.
Strong interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate with diverse
team members from across the organization, engaging comfortably
with operational employees and senior executives, remaining poised
and articulate under stressful interactions.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
from internal customers.
Willing and able to mentor and coach others in the application of
moderate to complex financial and analytical systems and data
visualization tools.
