PCU RN experience License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS,
ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with tracheostomies Cardiac
medication administration Cardiac rhythm interpretation Chest tube
management Blood product administration Wound care and dressing
changes Central line management Description: The role involves
providing nursing care in a progressive care unit. The unit has 32
beds and cares for patients not requiring mechanical ventilation.
Typical patient diagnoses include CHF, dysrhythmias, and
respiratory illnesses. Nurse-to-patient ratios are usually 1:4 and
may go to 1:5 depending on patient acuity. Support staff includes
CNAs for activities of daily living and charge nurses for
assistance. Available resources include 24/7 hospitalists,
intensivists, and telemetry monitoring. The facility utilizes EPIC
for electronic medical records and Phillips monitors. Nurses may be
required to float to different facilities within the region as
needed. Travelers are expected to work every other weekend and 75%
of holidays. Up to 6 days of time off may be approved, excluding
holidays. Unit culture is focused on being family-oriented.
