Job Description:


The Total Wellness Nurse coordinates employee wellness through the contracted on-site clinic, treats and coordinates care of injured/ill employees, prepares necessary forms for OSHA recordkeeping and Workers' Compensation, and supports the overall company health and wellness objectives.


* Manages occupational illnesses and injuries, which are work related or could affect the performance of the related job

* Assesses, evaluates and makes recommendations of injury or illness:

* Provides first aid or treatment as directed by Doctor

* Referrals for medical treatment

* Completion of necessary forms

* Incident documentation

* Suggests recommendations to prevent recurrence of incidents

* Provides counseling regarding the impact of the incident as it relates to personal, self, family, and/or job performance and responsible for referral to outside sources to improve the quality of life directly affected by the incident.

* Monitors follow-up care for the course of the treatment until completion; may remove sutures, visit hospital, and conduct follow-up phone calls; the follow-up care must be maintained within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act and other governing regulations.

* Supports Workers' Compensation; responsible for notifying the workers' compensation carrier of the claim; keeps a record of all pertinent information regarding the claim.

* Conducts Return to Work Evaluations; responsible for the assessment and release of employees who have been out of work; notifies the appropriate member of management and HR of employee's return to work status.

* Records and reports OSHA recordable cases in accordance with OSHA standards; reports recordable incidents to the appropriate company personnel; responsible for reporting changes within the OSHA recordkeeping standards, and is an active leader in implementing necessary changes to maintain compliance

* Administers vaccinations including tetanus, hepatitis b, and influenza.

* Schedules drug screens for new hires, post-accident, and suspicious behavior.

* Supports onsite Health Management Program; works in conjunction with the on-site clinic vendor, company nurses, and manager in all aspects of the program as necessary.

* Provides case management for FMLA/STD claims

* Maintains and distributes medical supplies to each location when requested

* Active in the safety of the employees; attends safety meetings in plants

* Responsible for review of Health and Safety Policies.

* Attends regular meetings with the medical director for updates and continuity of care of employees

* Submits articles/health documents when requested for company newsletters

* Maintains and implements the Hearing Conservation Program including:

* Scheduling make-up hearing tests and STS retests

* Posting surveys in required area along with Hearing Conservation Standard

* Sending audiograms into vendor for review and counsel employees

* Encouraged to participate in the local and state chapter of the Occupational Health Nurses Association

* Other Duties and Responsibilities

* Other duties assigned by the Manager, Health and Welfare within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act

* Performs all job duties within the scope of practice set forth by the State Board of Nursing

* Practices within the guideline of the standing doctor's orders

* Education/Certification Requirements

* Associate Degree or higher in Nursing

* Licensed by the State Board of Nursing, RN required

* Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC), preferred

* Maintain Continuing Education hours as required by the State Board of Nursing

* Experience

* 5-7 years of general nursing experience

* Previous occupational health nursing experience preferred


* Repeated standing and sitting

* Primarily in climate controlled clinic/office environment

* May require plant visits as necessary which may include increased humidity and temperatures above or below 70°F
