This position performs maintenance duties in support of
department operations. Major Duties
Manufacturers, installs, maintains, and repairs traffic
Installs and maintains thermoplastic markings and legends.
Installs traffic counters.
Installs and maintains paint and other high-performance markings
Establishes safe work zones in streets and traffic.
Assists in the preparation of special events.
Removes material from rights-of-way.
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
Attends training classes and seminars.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
After-hours work is required as necessary during emergencies,
inclement weather and other times as necessary.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Knowledge of the techniques employed in the installation,
maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices.
Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
Skill in the manufacture and installation of traffic signs.
Skill in the operation of such equipment as hydraulic post
puller, truck mounted crane, and pressurized air tanks with
pneumatic spray guns.
Skill in performing mathematical calculations.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical
calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of
high school or equivalent.
No experience requirements.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's
license issued by the State ofNorth Carolina for the type of
vehicle or equipment operated.
