We are currently seeking an IBMi Site Reliability Engineer to join our IBMi platform support team in Statesville, NC. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall health and maintenance of a large network of distributed IBMi servers. The position has early morning responsibilities starting at 6 AM Eastern to ensure system readiness for the work day. Other hours during planned maintenance windows could be assigned from time to time.


Implement automation tools to proactively identify hardware, OS, operational, PTF and configuration anomalies and deficiencies that may lead to future system or application outages, or stability and performance issues.
Items monitored will include messages, joblogs, configuration settings, audit logs, PAL logs, LIC logs, Problem logs, performance metrics, etc.
Promptly remediate alerts from these tools. Identify root cause or origin of the anomalies and implement automated preventative measures, when possible.
Assist with diagnosing problems to determine root cause; involve IBM Support or Auction Edge customer service in problem resolution if necessary.
Analyze support tickets, submitted by customers, and our own IBM support tickets for opportunities to prevent reported issues and reduce ticket volume.
System Performance Management:
After each implementation of an application or system change, compare before/after performance metrics and report adverse performance impacts.
Manage pre-deployment performance impact of new application development.
Security, intrusion prevention and malware protection
Implement or improve system resource security, perimeter security (network exit point security) and malware protection.
Real time intrusion monitoring - evaluate audit journals and PASE security logs for anomalies, unauthorized access or policy breaches.
Implement a system breach detection plan, action plan and remediation process.
Establish secure communication between Auction Edge facilities and customers.
Develop reliable system backup solutions; assist in the monitoring and remediation and prevention of missed, failed and incomplete backups.
Assist with developing and maintaining procedures to audit Auction Edge and customers for SOX & SSAE16 Type 2 compliance; perform quarterly compliance verifications; Assist with penetration tests and auditing/reporting.
Assist auctions with migrating to Access Client Solutions + TSL connections.
Improve automated setup and pre-delivery quality/compliance checks of new server build and seamless box swap activities, and in-field OS upgrades.
Assist auctions with selecting, migrating, and operating cloud hosted IBM i servers.
Document procedures and processes, ensuring operations can always be maintained.
Stay informed on IBM i improvements and developments and disseminate to the team.
Other responsibilities may be identified as circumstances and customer requirements change

Required Qualifications:

5 years of experience installing, configuring and supporting IBM i software, hardware and connectivity components across multiple network environments
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Deep experience with IBM i work management, save/restore, IFS, troubleshooting, etc.
Experience with all system diagnostic tools and navigation of hardware configuration.
Experience with high availability (HA) solutions and Backup/Recovery solutions.
Knowledge of IBM i security, exit points, audit journal entries, PASE logs (i.e. Apache).
Basic TCP/IP networking setup and diagnostic skills.
Advanced CL and CMD programming skills and the ability to develop automated workflow scripts in CL or REXX.
Experience with the IBM Administration Runtime Expert (ARE) configuration/operational monitoring tool is not required, however, setting up ARE automation requires 1) Java programming 2) SQL, and IBM i Services and 3) Qshell commands

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to program system API calls and DB2 access in RPGLE or Java
Experience with open source solutions and languages
Experience with SIEM solutions and IBM i SIEM agents (syslog collectors).
Strong logic (programming) skills are a requirement for developing and maintaining scripts used by the systems management and system security tools for workflows, filters, monitoring and automated actions.
Experience in policy/procedure of audits/compliance on aspects of security and procedural compliance (Sox2 Compliance, SSAE16, etc.)
Experience with analyzing and correcting IBM i performance issues using performance tools, performance navigator, and job watcher
Experience in performing IBM server hardware setup and installing hardware components and upgrades
Experience with HMC setup, maintenance and operations
Familiarity with IBM support, online tickets, fix central, ESS, Knowledge Center, etc.
